Published by NPC, this report is the result of an inquiry into the helpfulness (or otherwise) of ‘theory of change’ methods in complex environments.

The paper addresses some criticisms of ‘theory of change’ models, including that they oversimplify causal relationships and neglect the wider context in which charities are working; and provides some advice for avoiding these pitfalls when thinking through and evaluating complex initiatives.
