Such space is needed not just if we are to avert the looming disasters of the polycrisis. It’s needed because there is so much joy and abundance to be found outside of the patterns we are confined to.
Space to reimagine is rare. The times when it is needed most are tragically the times when it is hardest to create. This is why we believe the decision we have taken is so necessary, and why it feels so hard.
At the time of writing in 2025, Lankelly has ceased its work as an institutional funder. Instead we are resourcing a group of community-based practitioners to come together to do the reimagination work. This group was identified through extensive consultation and peer review. The task will be to explore and test whether alternatives to institutional philanthropy are available that can support life-affirming work without the contradictions and tensions of the current model, which we have set out in some detail on this site.
To be clear, we are not looking for innovations or improvements on the current model. We are looking for genuine alternatives. Our intention is that new pathways for wealth will be created that genuinely shift power to communities most affected by the polycrisis and who hold deep wisdoms about alternative practices.
The group is made up of people with longstanding practices in design, systems approaches, healing and community solidarity work. Lankelly Chase is sponsoring this work, and our board will retain decision making in relation to how this work will inform the redistribution of our remaining assets.
We will work with the group of community-based practitioners to establish how best to communicate the reimagination process in ways that create the maximum public benefit.
Updates will be shared on Lankelly’s main site.
